Meet Alyssa C.
Abernathy, LMSW- CASAC-T

A Queens native serving queens.

Alyssa C. Abernathy was born and raised in Queens and currently calls the borough of Brooklyn home. Alyssa is the daughter of Linda and Bernell Abernathy, the sister to Courtney and Anthony Abernathy, and the mother of Joshua Abernathy. Alyssa has experienced many hardships that would have hindered her from completing her desired professional and personal goals. However, Alyssa remained resilient, focused, and determined to beat the odds. Alyssa completed and received a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from The College of New Rochelle School of New Resources.

While at CNR, the school of New Resources, she completed Relevant coursework in Sociology, Psychology, and Addiction. Alyssa’s passion for volunteerism was realized while studying at the College of New Rochelle. She volunteered as a public relations director, which required her to serve as the liaison between the students and the director of student services, organizing events for the student body. To begin her journey and gain experience in counseling and social services, Alyssa volunteered at Trevor Project. A nonprofit organization services LGBTQ youth and young adults at high risk of suicide.

Alyssa went on to pursue her master’s degree and graduated from Long Island University (Brooklyn) campus, where she obtained a master’s degree in Social Work.   While completing her degree, she continued her passion for giving back by volunteering on campus in various capacities, including traveling with her college to volunteer in Puerto Rico following the devastation the Island experienced after hurricane Maria. Alyssa’s desire to make an impact in her community and help motivate individuals to design the level of success they desire would encourage the establishment of The Life Equip Group, founded in August 2016.

Alyssa has been honored for her efforts and received various awards from former Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and various government representatives and organizations she has worked with. Alyssa is an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. Eta Nu Sigma Chapter, where she currently serves on the fundraiser and community service committees. Alyssa’s current professional work consists of her leading and working on a team that services the homeless population. Alyssa’s objective is to encourage independence, individuality, and success that isn’t defined by anyone else but the person working towards it.
